Edward Burne-Jones

An Idyll: figure study

Date: c. 1862

Materials: Pencil & Charcoal

Signed and dated 1862, the watercolour from this study belonged to George Frederic Watts who acted as a friend to Burne-Jones in 1857 when the young artist was undergoing a period of illness and insecurity.

'An Idyll' is one of a group of works from this period inspired by Venetian Renaissance art following Burne-Jones's first visit to Italy in 1859.
