The Techniques Used

Where Wet-White Was Used

Part of Valentine rescuing Sylvia from Proteus The 'Wet-white' technique was apparently used only on those parts of a painting where brilliancy was required. Hunt states that he used it for the heads, hands and the brighter costumes of the painting 'Valentine Rescuing Sylvia from Proteus' of 1851.

In 1851, Brown wrote to a friend that the works of Hunt and Millais "already kill everything in the exhibition for brilliancy".
